A prayer of sorts. I made this song in my basement a long time ago, using nothing but a drum machine and an 80s synthesizer. Barbone added some parts that brought it to life. Some time later it was mixed by Ryan Gilligan at Electric Lady studios on the purple SSL. Mixing the song with Ryan was probably my favorite thing about it… he's golden.
lyrics
things are goin good
and everything is ok
but if i know myself
i'm gonna fall away
you know i never mean it
it's just what humans do
start to get that feelin
that we don't need You
start to get a taste
of walkin on our own
and we leave that place
we ignore the throne
oh God you're so much more
than a fair weather friend
don't let the only times
we talk be when I need a hand
God I'm so afraid
that this will fade away
please don't let me stray
from the path You've laid
i'm gonna hit my knees
that blood is all i need
and i'm not gettin up til You talk to me
can't even count the ways
that i've been saved by grace
but there's so many times
that I slapped Your face
You know my every thought
and see my every deed
and when I hate myself
You keep on loving me
these tears are liquid prayers
and they gon' get me there
into Your presence where
You can give me what i need
to make it through the mess
even with all the stress
my God is bigger than
all the things that i can't stand
God I'm so afraid
that this will fade away
please don't let me stray
from the path You've laid
i'm gonna hit my knees
that blood is all i need
and i'm not gettin up til You talk to me
let me be a tool in your hands
let me be a voice to your plan
let me see people like You do
let me take a beating for You
let me in You be confident
let me be a light to all men
let my work be most efficient
let me love without condition
let me never boast in myself
let me put You above all else
let me operate in your will
let me always be Spirit-filled
let my songs get the hands raised
let my voice always sing Your praise
let me be salt and make me light
let You in me always take delight
it's in the secret place
that imma find my grace
i won't turn away
i will stay and seek Your face
i'm gonna live Your word
and let Your voice be heard
i just can't believe
that You would use an idiot like me
